Talk more, test more with SH:24
#TalkMoreTestMore – September 2024: Breaking the silence on STI testing
The stigma and shame surrounding sex and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) remain some of the biggest barriers preventing people from seeking regular testing. For young people, negative societal attitudes are particularly powerful deterrents to accessing crucial sexual health services.
But here’s the reality: more than half of sexually active adults will contract an STI at some point in their lives. In fact, in the UK, a young person is diagnosed with chlamydia or gonorrhoea every 4 minutes. With statistics like these, why is the conversation still surrounded by stigma?
At SH:24, we believe talking about STI testing should not be taboo. The silence surrounding sexual health prevents people from getting the care they need, putting them at risk and increasing the spread of STIs.
That’s why we’re bringing back #TalkMoreTestMore in 2024, as part of our 10-year anniversary celebration of SH:24’s services. We’re partnering with influencers, activists, and creators to normalise the conversation around sexual health and encourage everyone to get tested.
What is the #TalkMoreTestMore campaign?
#TalkMoreTestMore is a national campaign aimed at breaking down the harmful stigma around sex and STIs. By encouraging open conversations about sexual health and promoting regular STI testing, we aim to reduce transmission and empower people to take control of their sexual health.
This year’s campaign will run throughout September and October 2024, coinciding with #10YearsOfSH24. In partnership with the NHS and other trusted organisations, SH:24 offers free home STI testing and online ordering for emergency and oral contraception, making sexual health services more accessible than ever.
Why now?
The culture of silence around STI testing isn’t just uncomfortable—it’s dangerous. By avoiding open discussions about sexual health, we miss opportunities for education and prevention. When we talk, we remove the shame, making it easier for people to get tested and receive treatment.
Join us in September and October 2024!
We’re excited to collaborate with influential voices such as Dee Whitnell, Max Hovey, Reed Amber Thomas-Litman, and Dan Harry, to spread the word. With their help, we can create real change by ending the stigma and encouraging conversations about sexual health and STI testing.
Ready to help break the silence?
Join the conversation on social media by using the hashtag #TalkMoreTestMore and help spread the word about the importance of STI testing. Let’s end the shame and create a culture where sexual health is openly discussed and prioritised.
